KPDC- The Story
The Kerala Poultry Development Council (KPDC), established in 2013 with its headquarters in Kannur, has been supporting small-scale poultry farmers across Kerala since 2010. By organizing these farmers into Poultry Self-Help Groups (PSHGs), KPDC has helped them generate income and improve their social and economic standing. The council is ISO 9001-2008 certified and recognized by the Government of India under the Ministry of Urban Development, with over a thousand PSHGs operating statewide. In September 2023, KPDC launched KPDC Farmers Producer Company Ltd., expanding its focus beyond poultry to include agriculture, dairy, pig farming, and fisheries, marking a significant step toward holistic rural development.

Over the past decade, KPDC has grown significantly, providing strong support to farmers with facilities in Karnataka and Kerala, including hatcheries, meat processing plants, and a poultry feed mill.

Future Plans

KPDC-FPC Ltd. plans to expand its marketing network across major cities and remote villages in Kerala, offering processed meats such as chicken, goat, pig, duck, and rabbit, along with fisheries and food grains. Key highlights include:

  • Central kitchen for food production.
  • Food trucks promoting street food using chicken and by-products.
  • Ready-to-cook chicken with masalas.
  • Sales of value-added agricultural products like juices, squashes, and jams.
  • Production of natural hygienic products like paddy, arrowroot powder, and roasted masalas.
  • Mobile lab technology for soil testing and animal husbandry.

  • IT services for bill payments, banking, and training, along with solar water pumps and panels for farmers.

Benefits to the farmers

KPDC-FPC Ltd. eliminates middlemen, providing farmers with direct access to affordable day-old chicks, feed, medicine, and poultry equipment at lower prices than the market. After 38-40 days of poultry rearing, the company collects the birds directly from farmers, transporting them to our processing plants. Here, we produce a variety of processed meats, such as skin-on and skinless chicken, whole chicken, nuggets, drumsticks, lollipops, boneless breast, liver, gizzards, and ready-to-cook products. This value-added approach ensures higher income for farmers, offering them financial security and stability.
